The Club host an internal handicap race series, including the Club Championship which is better known as Trevor's Challenge, as well as hosting the Harting 10 trail race.
We also participate as a club in the Hampshire Road Race (HRRL) and the Southern Cross Country League (SCCL).
The Club also has strong representation in local races. And don't forget as an English Athletics (EA) affiliated athlete you qualify for a £2 reduction on race fees for EA affiliated races.

We run a handicap race series from April through to September. Races are on the 1st Wednesday of the Month and replace interval training.
The courses vary in distances from 3.6 to 5.1 miles and will be well marked around the Liss area.
The first race, Trevor's Challenge*, is a scratch race with everybody setting off together. This gives each runner their handicap time. Each subsequent race runners are set off at timed intervals depending on their preceding finishing times, with each runner's handicap adjusting throughout the series. The system is aimed at everyone finishing together. It's worked out well in the past with the majority of runners finishing within a two minute window. A hard task for the results collector!
Points are awarded for each runner's finishing position with the runner with the most points at the end of the season the winner.
Consistency is key along with attending each of the races. You can afford to miss one race, if you have to, as your five best race results count, your worst is discounted. There are prizes for the winners. The races are very social with early finishers giving a lot of support for the later finishers. So don't miss out on the fun!
* Trevor's Challenge also doubles up as the Club's Championships and is named in honour of the club's founder, Trevor Stothard. Trophies will be awarded to category winners.
The Emsworth to Basingstoke Relay is charity event for teams of 6 runners.
Taking place in May each year, the relay race takes place mainly on public footpaths and trails on a 70km route across Hampshire.
While not an official event for the Club, nevertheless members enter teams some branded as Liss Runners some more loosley associated with the Club.
The club participate in the Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL).
The season runs from September through to July with the results from each race counting towards the overall series results. The 2024/25 season has 12 races ranging from 5 miles to half marathon.
The ladies team are in Division 1A with the men in Division 1B.
Club teams (4 runners per team) are made up of their finishers based on the finish position (rather than pre-determined named runners). Teams score points based on the finishing positions of their runners, and the team with the fastest runners wins a race. The League winner is decided at the end of the season. Club teams can have multiple teams. Teams comprise a wide range of runners of all standards, abilities and ages.
Individual runners are also automatically considered for the individual league. They score points based on their finishing positions in the races. Any affiliated runner completing at least 7 races (though see league rules) within the season will qualify for the individual league.
There are separate leagues for women and men, both for teams and individuals.
A 10 mile long multi-terrain race over private tarmac lanes, hard gravel tracks and some paths. The route runs up to the top of the Downs, gently down towards Compton, along towards Chalton, up to Ditcham Park School, along part of the South Downs Way and back down to South Harting to finish on the sports field.
There are many superb views around the course.
Medals are awarded to all finishers, with trophies/cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female, and 1st male and female in age categories V40, V50, V60 and V70. In addition, every finisher will be entered to win one of two pairs of Hoka trainers from our event sponsor.
There is a kids race for children aged 4 – 14 utilising a loop of approximately 400 meters around the sports ground. Children can choose to run from 1 – 5 laps of the course and all children will receive a medal on completion, regardless of the distance they chose to run.
The event is organised under English Athletics permit number 31272 issued by Run Events.
The race headquarters are at the sports field just to the West of the village of South Harting on the B2146 Petersfield to Chichester road, nearest post code: GU31 5QA - w3w //valid.pedicure.cliff
The race start is approximately 5 minutes walk away. Turn left out of the sports field, up the main road and at the top take the lane on the left.
The route will be well signed and marshalled by enthusiastic Liss Runners members. There will be mile markers, three water stations and medical support. This course (10 miles) is measured as accurately as is practical over the rough ground in places.
Entry fee is £22 (£20 for EA Affiliated), the kids race is free. 50% of the money raised will go to The Rosemary Foundation, the supported charity of Liss Runners.
There will be a free post race massage courtesy of Body & Mind Physiotherapy, plus great cakes and refreshments at this relaxed, friendly and scenic event.
Important Notes:
In addition to the local league races, the Club is always well represented at local races. And don't forget, for those that are England Athletics Affiliated, there is usually a discount for affiliated (also known as attached) club members.
We try and list here some of the regular and more popular events in the area. In addition, club members are seen at local Park Runs, notably Alice Holt, Hogmoor (Bordon) and Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

The Club participate in the Southern Cross Country League (SCCL). The league is a series of cross country races held on Sundays from October to March, involving local running clubs.
Courses are a mixture of woodland trails and parkland, usually 5 miles in length and organised by the clubs in the league. There are usually between 300 and 500 runners taking part
No need to register and no race fees*. Just turn up and race. But club kit is compulsory. Join the SCCL WhatsApp group (details below) for logistics, car shares etc.
Men and women compete in the same race with the first 4 men and first 4 women from each club scoring points.
All abilities take part and even non-scorers can affect the result by getting ahead of scorers from other clubs.
Participation in the SCCL races automatically enters each athlete into the Club's own internal league with points being awarded for participation and results. This means you don't have to be a really fast runner to be in with a chance of receiving an award at the Club awards evening.
There is a speed limit to prevent the fastest racing snakes from taking part. These limits apply races of 5 miles or more run in the preceding season.
For the ladies it's 6' 00" per mile . This equates to 30' 00" for a race of 5 miles , 37' 15" for a 10km and 60' 00" for a 10 mile race.
For the men it's 5' 30" per mile ; equating to 27' 30" for a 5 mile race , 34' 09" for a 10km and 55' 00" for 10 miles.
The Club have a Liss Runners Southern XC WhatsApp group for all SCCL logistics.
* to run in the SCCL, members need to be EA affiliated runners. It is possible for non EA runners to enter but there will be a small fee paid by the Club to the league, currently £2 per race, which covers things like liaibility insurance. Those wishing to do this need to let the captains know well in advance.
A classic relay race over the entire 100 miles South Downs Way.
The race usually taking place on the 1st Saturday in June. The race starts at Beachy Head, racing westwards to finish at Chilcomb just to the east of Winchester.
It's a great team event made up of 6 runners and a driver and is a superb day out. We currently have a ladies and men's team place.
Some 60 teams compete from clubs along the length of the South Downs. Racing is always good natured and friendly rivalry. With a staggered start based on estimated completion time, the teams aim to get to Chilcomb around 8pm.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
