What's on the menu

Every run is training, even if you're taking it easy. So don't be put off that training is all hard graft and sweat. We have a number of sessions taking place, some regularly throughout the year and some seasonal. There's something for everyone.

Where practical, club activities will be lead by a club member who has been accredited with the English Athletics Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) qualification. All members attending a club session have an obligation to listen to and follow instructions of the LiRF session leader. This also includes making the session leader aware of any medical issues, potential risks or other matters that may impact the effectiveness and safety of the session.

It may not be possible to have an LiRF leader for all sessions. Activities such as the Sunday long run and pub runs are un-coached sessions. However, LiRF leaders may be attending as participants.

Club activities are governed by our policies for both session leaders and attendees.

Club members can see all activities within the calendar on the App or login to our website.

Summer Pub Run Series

With the possible exception of strawberries and cream, what could be a better pairing in the summer than pub and run?

Pub runs take place on alternate Monday evenings from May to August. We meet at a pub, enjoy a run around the countryside (mainly off-road) then refresh ourselves before heading for home. You can just come for the run, stay for a post run drink or enjoy a pub dinner.

Clear written instructions are provided so you can find your way around the route. We run as a group and stop at navigation points which allows the group to gather together.

Most of the runs offer routes of around 7 miles, 5 miles and some add a 3 mile walkers route. You'll find paths, trails and parts of our region you probably had never known about.

Please arrive at the pub just before 7pm for a prompt start.

Emails are sent to members with details nearer the time confirming the venue, times and any other logistics.

Pub runs are an un-coached session and therefore may not have a LiRF qualified leader in attendance.

Wednesday Interval Training

Intervals are an important part of training and improving as a runner. It builds both speed and strength. It's not just for speed demons and all out racers, it's for all runners and abilities. No one is too slow for intervals, it's very inclusive.

Our interval sessions are led by club trainers and take place on the local estate in winter and around various locations in Liss and Petersfield in summer.

Session includes about 1 mile warm-up, approximately 30 mins of intensity then group stretching and warm down. The lead trainer is support by a further trainer (named in brackets) to ensure the wellbeing of all runners.

Trainers hold the Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) accreditation from England Athletics.

The venue and trainer is announced weekly by email and in the main Liss Runners WhatsApp group.

Meet at 7:00pm at Newman Collard - w3w ///trickster.deflect.loving

Thursday Social Run

An easy paced (recovery) run with plenty of time to chat and plod. The run will have frequent stops and a strict "no drop" policy.

The route for the session will be decided on the day depending upon the preferences of the participants.

The usual meeting place is the Central (Waitrose) car park in Petersfield.

However, the Thursday Foray takes place on the first thursday of the month which will mean a different meeting place. Look out for information on this within the Thursday Social WhatsApp group.

Meet at 7:00pm at Waitrose - w3w ///sugar.bumpy.bescott and check the Liss Runners Thursday Social WhatsApp group.

Sunday Long Run

Sunday is traditionally the day for the slow(er), long(er) run (SLR). Together with some speed work, such as Wednesday intervals or a track session, this is a stable of the training cycle.

The Sunday long run is usually around 9 or 10 miles and starts with a "social mile" run all together before the group divides into smaller groups of similar ability for the remainder of the run.

The Sunday routes typically start from Newman Collard at 9am unless indicated by an * and are typically run on road. The Liss Runners Sundayers WhatsApp group is used by members for logistics. Attendance may be impacted when the Club are participating in the HRRL and SCCL races.

The SLR is an un-coached session and therefore may not have a LiRF qualified leader in attendance.

Track Sessions

Newly added, the Club now run track training sessions (intervals) at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. There will be a small charge of £4.65 for each runner to use the track.

Sessions will be managed by Jayne Jeffries and will be Monday evenings, other than when there is a pub run. They will be during the summer months while the light and weather hold.

There are occasionally other sessions too. Keep a look out in the calendar.

Meet at 6:00pm at Newman Collard - w3w ///ghosts.firmly.sprayed for lift sharing or meet at 6:30pm at the Mountbatten Centre. Check the LR Track Sessions WhatsApp group for confirmation of the session.
